Mary Nell Alvis, age 80, was a beautiful, strong, brave, spiritual lady who cherished being a daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mary went to meet our Lord and Savior on October 14th, 2018. She was born October 25, 1937 in Cayuga, Texas to her parents Wanda and Morris (Ned) Alvis. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother, DeWayne Alvis. She was raised in the Lone Star Gas camp where she graduated from Cayuga High School. Mary is known by her family and friends as having an always optimistic outlook, being strong and steadfast in her faith, possessing a kind and compassionate spirit, and always setting an unforgettable example for others.
She loved to needle point, knit, sew, and she crocheted countless numbers of blankets, hats, booties and scarves over the years. She enjoyed ball room dancing, coin collecting, and played many hours of dominos, puzzles and games with grandchildren, and of course always let them win. She had a life-long love affair with baking, including the best Thanksgiving dressing…ever. She enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams Cayuga High School basketball, Mavericks, Rangers, Cowboys, Aggies, and Golf.
Mary had a very successful business career working in Texas and Georgia for the banking industry starting in 1960 until retiring in 1993. She then returned to Malakoff Texas, started her own business where she leveraged her creativity to touch many people with her custom embroidery business.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sister Patsy Duncan, daughters Cynthia Gutierrez and husband Kelly, Martha Shuttleworth and husband Gary, Shannon Davis and husband Steve. Mary took extreme pride in her grandchildren; Chasity Swehla and her husband Dustin, Christan Smith and her husband Daniel, Casie Hill and her husband Chris, Lacy, Jacob and Josh Shuttleworth, Tyler and Dillon Davis; as well as pride in her thirteen great grandchildren Dawson, Cailey, Davin and Claire Swehla, Carson and Cooper Smith, Chloe and Colby Hill, Mason, Logan, Madison, and Hudson Murphree, and Liston Shuttleworth. Also survived by her former husband and friend Clyde McKinney and many close friends and family members.
Mary will be dearly missed by all that were blessed to know her, and she leaves this earth leaving us all rich in memories.
