Peggy Ann Hellums

Peggy Ann Hellums, 80, of Scurry,TX went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2018. Peggy was born on December 22, 1937 to Johnny and Lillie Mae Knowles in Athens, TX. She married Gene Lasater Hellums on June 1, 1956 and spent 61 wonderful years together. Peggy graduated from Athens High School and earned a Bachelors and Masters degree from East Texas State University. They moved to the Scurry area in 1973 where she worked as a teacher, counselor and principal at Scurry-Rosser ISD. During her years as a part of the Scurry-Rosser faculty, she touched and positively impacted many lives of students and fellow staff. She enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. Peggy looked forward to time with the ladies in the Cottonwood Craft Club and Cottonwood Community Club. She had a love for music, singing and playing the piano and looked forward to playing piano on Sundays for the Rosser Methodist Church. "Mur-Mur" looked forward to visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she adored. Those who preceded her in death are her parents, step-father Robert Hethcoat and step-sister Barbara Jeanette Bearse. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Gene, daughter Julie Moeller and husband James of Scurry, TX, son Gary Hellums and wife Tracy of Emory, TX, sister Dianne Herber of Georgetown, TX, brother Carroll Hethcoat and wife Janice of Athens, TX, grandchildren; Maegan Miller and husband Nicholas, Morgan Moeller and Mandy Wigginton and husband Jeremy, great grandchildren; Garrett Miller, Charles Miller, Hannah Wigginton and Brooklyn Wigginton, and numerous extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
