George Melvin Smith

GEORGE MELVIN SMITH George Melvin Smith was born in Lampasas County, Texas on August 24, 1930 to Bennie and Buna Smith. George passed away at his home in Kaufman, Texas on April 5, 2014. George was raised around Lampasas County and Gatesville. He moved to Hamilton, Texas for ten years before moving to Kaufman in 1964.George worked for Trinity Valley Electrical Cooperative in Kaufman as a lineman for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1992. On September 18, 1951 George married Mae Bailey in Lampasas. He was preceded in death by a daughter Charlotte Carr and a grandson Randy Owen. George is survived by his wife: Mae Smith of Kaufman, son: Melvin Smith of Gatesville, daughters: Vera Owen of Kaufman, Deborah Comstock of Kaufman and Ben Lee Preston of Kemp, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and many other relatives. Graveside services were held at Rock Hill Cemetery in Van Zandt County on April 7, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Pat Cooper officiating.
