Martha Lou Garrett

MARTHA LOU GARRETT Martha Lou Garrett was born in Peeltown, Texas on May 25, 1938 to William and Winnie Brewer Sloan. Martha passed away at her home in Scurry, Texas on April 1, 2014. Martha was raised in the Grays Prairie area and moved to Scurry in the 50's. She graduated from Scurry-Rosser High School in 1956. She moved to Kaufman in 1964 and then back to Scurry in 1998. Martha worked for Farm Bureau and Pruitt Insurance Company. She also owned and operated with her first husband Metcalf Grocery in Crandall in the 70's. She was a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Scurry and loved to play bingo and 42. Martha married her first husband Donald Myers Metcalf on December 21, 1956 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1996. She married her second husband Gene Autry Garrett in Scurry on July 5, 1998 and he passed away on June 19, 2013. A grandchild and two brothers Calvin Andrew Sloan and Kelsey Dee Sloan also preceded Martha in death. Martha is survived by her sons: Barry Glenn Metcalf of Ennis, Donald Miears Metcalf Jr., of Terrell and Gene Allen Garrett of McKinney, daughters: Rhonda Nabors of Grand Prairie, Lesa Metcalf Tettleton of Kaufman, Donna Metcalf Johnson of Mesquite and Cheryl Metcalf Bell of Mesquite, sisters: Betty Lane Christian of Brazoria, Dortha Lee Webb of Roseburg, Oregon and Jo Nell Smelker of Kaufman, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and many other relatives.
