Allen "Rex" Ray Akin was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on April 25, 1946 to Melvin Hugh Akin and Vivian Estelle Kennedy. Rex passed away in Kaufman, Texas on June 29, 2013. He served with the Texas Department of Public Safety as a trooper for thirty-nine years and was a former special Forces Engineer and ODA 222, B Co, 2nd BN, 12th SFG(A) in Amarillo. Rex was also a Vietnam Vet. He was a member of the Special Forces Association, DPS Officer Association, American Guardians MC, American State Trooper Association, Kaufman First Baptist Church and a life time member of the National Rifle Association. Rex married Mary Margaret Taylor in Rockwall, Texas on April 15, 2003. When Rex and Mary met, he was on a mission with the United Nations and the State Department to establish law enforcement for the country of East Timor, where he served as the bodyguard for their first president. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife: Mary of Kaufman, sons: Brent Allen Akin of Lindale, Texas, Jonathan Alan Aslan of Houston, Matthew David Aslan of Dallas and Joseph Michael Aslan of Albany, New York, daughter: Angela Renee Akin of Austin, sister: Bonnie Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, grandchildren: Sadie Reagh Akin, Ty Allen Akin and Eli William Akin and many other relatives and friends. Rex passed at the age of 67, a Special Forces and Law Enforcement model for all to emulate. He will be greatly missed.
