NANCY UPCHURCH Nancy Upchurch was born Annie Morris Little Davis July 21, 1928 to Rebecca Frances and Fredrick Walter Davis in Glasgow Scotland. Nancy as we all knew her had 6 sisters, *Ruby Lilly, * Elizabeth Knight, Margret Knoitze, *Irene Annis, Dorothy (Dolly) Melbourn, and Angela Griffith as well as two brothers *Fred Davis and John Davis. Nancy was the last of the Davis family to be born in Scotland because her parents moved back to England and resided at 47 Bickerly Road in Ringwood, Hampshire, where her brother John still lives today. During World War II Nancy met General Upchurch, they married July 21, 1945. General returned to Texas in 1945 and Nancy followed in 1947. The couple moved to Rosser, Texas after a short stay in Dallas. General's son Stanley came to live with them in 1948 the same year that Nancy gave birth to a daughter Nannette. Nancy and General would have two more children Anthony and Winston. Today Nancy has four wonderful granddaughters, Jerri Beal, Becky Bates, Annie Perdue, and Helen Upchurch and three grandsons, Buddy, John, and Jessie Upchurch. 6 Great granddaughters and 5 Great Grandsons, and 2 Great Great Granddaughters, all of these lovingly knew Nancy as Nanny or Nan. Numerous Nieces and Nephews in New York, England, Australia and Amsterdam all deeply loved by Nancy. Nancy was also known as "Nanny" to her church and community as well as two very special little girls that she cared for and loved from birth, McKinzey and Kylie Gamster. Nancy's love for others brought great joy and happiness into her life as well as to those around her. Nancy lived most of her life in Rosser or Scurry, Texas. She and General farmed the Trinity Bottoms while in Rosser in the 50's and then purchased a telephone exchanged and moved to Scurry. They later moved back to Rosser in the mid 60's because they both loved it so much. Nancy was very active in her church and community. First Baptist of Rosser was once the Missionary Baptist Church of Rosser, it's members were her family since hers was so very far away. Nancy gave her life to Christ in the late 40's and enjoyed seeing the Lord at work, blessing her life as well as others around her. Nancy served as the City Secretary of Rosser for numerous years. For over 20 years Rosser has celebrated the 4th of July with a Parade and a day of community unity. Nancy felt it was important that everyone come together to express joy and thankfulness for freedom and to those who served in the armed forces to make that freedom possible. Nancy knew firsthand the importance of someone going to battle for the freedom of others! Nancy became an American citizen and kept her citizenship certificate framed for everyone to see. Nancy lived with her daughter Nannette for the past several months during which she continued to keep in touch with friends and relatives until she was unable to write. She love to send the church bulletin with a note of encouragement to those that she knew were shut ins or just unable to attend a church of their choice. Her love and prayers were given to many and her time here with us on this earth and will never be forgotten. We know she has been reunited with her sister Irene and Elizabeth, which she just recently lost, and the joy she feels now is one that we will also know when we are reunited with her.
