MATTIE POWELL Mattie Powell, 91 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 24, 2013. She was born February 22, 1922 to Frank and Maude Page Smith in Kerens, Texas. She graduated from Kerens High School in 1940. She married Gene Powell in 1942 and they made their home in Dallas, Texas before moving to Kaufman, Texas in 1982. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ennis, Texas at the time of her death and was a Sunday school teacher in each community in which she lived. Mattie was a wife, mother, grandmother great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt and a sincere friend to many. She strongly believed in the power of prayer and prayed daily for her family. She was a central figure in the lives of her grandchildren. In her loving, gracious way, she had a significant and positive influence on many people. After being a homemaker for many years, Mattie was employed by Sears Roebuck until her retirement in 1983. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Gene Powell, her son, Ronnie Powell and great-grand-daughter, Leah Bryn Powell. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lee, grandsons Ron Powell, Ben Lee, John Powell, Chris Lee, Rusty Lee, and 11 great-grandchildren.
