Betty Lou Cox

BETTY LOU COX Born April 5, 1923. Deceased March 19 2013 at the age of 89 years. Betty began working for Southwestern Bell at age 17 and retired after 44 years of service having worked in the Yellow Pages Division for 30 years and 14 years as a supervisor in the Benefit Department. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers for 52 years. She helped establish the Telephone Pioneer Club at Cedar Creek Lake in 1984 and served as president three times as well as other offices through the years. Betty was the Editor and distributor of a Pioneer monthly newsletter for the Cedar Creek Redbird Club which was sent to over 200 members. She was the National Director for the Talking Book Program for the blind for 2 years in association with the Library of Congress, Washington, D. C. Then she served as coordinator of the Talking Book Program over a five state area for many years. In 1985 she was honored at a National Pioneer Assembly meeting in Montreal, Canada as being the national representative depicting the 300,000th pioneer retiree. She was also recognized as being on of the chosen volunteers in the State of Texas with an award and a letter of congratulations from Governor Rick Perry. Betty attended Woodrow Wilson High School graduating in 1940. She was devoted to her husband and her many friends. She especially loved her family of cats. Betty was a Methodist and lived life as a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She was truly an outstanding "Angel on Earth", a person who could always be depended on to help and give advice. Her husband said, "I thank God for Betty loving me for forty one years". Betty will be greatly missed.
