Elizabeth's Obituary Eleanor Elizabeth Powell was born August 27, 1962, in Pecos, Texas and lost her battle with cancer on June 7, 2012 in Tigard, Oregon. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her biological father Dr. J. Randolph Powell, M.D., her biological mother Rose Marie Powell, stepfather Charles Dean Duncan, and brothers Billy Michael Powell and Randall Charles Duncan. She is survived by her dear friend Bernie Kiely, her beloved dog Tosca, her mom Sue P. Duncan, sisters Johnnie Marie Ashley and husband Steve, Lisa D. Cardozo and husband Scott, Amy D. Sewell and husband Rickey, Ashley D. Jones and husband Jimmy. Additionally, she is survived by nephews Calvin Randall Duncan and Cameron Dean Duncan; nieces Sarah Ainsley Sewell and Katherine Louise Cardozo and Mica Dawn Hopkins and husband Mike, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a wealth of friends. As a child, Elizabeth moved from Pecos to Kaufman in 1970. She graduated from Kaufman High School in 1980. Elizabeth attended TVCC School of Nursing and graduated in May 1986 and moved to Midland/Odessa. There she met and worked with Bernie Kiely, who became an integral part of her family for life. They both moved to Kaufman in 1989, where they lived until May 2002. Throughout her time in Kaufman, Elizabeth worked many years as a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman, in addition to several other healthcare facilities in the Dallas area.While studying for her psychology degree, Elizabeth became a licensed massage therapist and maintained her own business in Kaufman for several years.Upon receiving her Bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology in May 2002 from the University of Texas at Tyler, Elizabeth and Bernie moved to Portland, Oregon. While in Oregon she attended George Fox University where she received a Master's degree in Psychology & Counseling, and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2006. After moving to Portland she worked at the VA Hospital, as a nurse and educator. Elizabeth was committed to her profession as a nurse for greater than 20 years. She also truly loved her work with the Veterans and provided several years of pro-bono counseling with a specialty for PTSD victims.The family is requesting immediate family flowers only.
