WYNELLE P. CALLAN Wynelle P. Callan died on May 29, 2012 at Christian Care Center in Mesquite, TX where she resided for 5 years and affectionately became known as "Grandmother" to everyone there, not just the employees, but also the other residents and their family members. Wynelle never met a stranger she always had a smile on her face and words of encouragement to all who were blessed to meet and know her. She was born in Emory, TX on Nov. 17, 1917 to Robert and Viola Pound. Her mother died shortly after her birth of influenza during the epidemic of 1917. Her father was a veteran of WWI and was forced to send Wynelle to live in a boarding school in Wortham, TX for a number of years. Wynelle attended North Texas State University and earned her degree in education in 1939. She became a teacher in the Kaufman Independent School District in 1940 and soon after met her beloved husband of 54 years, Jack Callan, the owner and editor of The Kaufman Herald, the local newspaper. They married in 1941 and lived in Kaufman their entire married life. Jack preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1995. Wynelle taught school for nearly 30 years in Kaufman where she was loved and adored by all of her "pupils" as she called them. Wynelle is survived by her daughter, Debbie Duckworth and her husband Darius of Terrell, granddaughter Holly Faulkner of Lubbock, daughter Janelle Ozimy, granddaughter Donna Campbell, grandson Danny Ozimy and several great grandchildren.
