Charley David Riggs, Jr. was born in Dallas, Texas on January 17, 1931 to Charley David Riggs Sr. and Opal Susan McNeil Riggs. Charley passed from this life in Kaufman, Texas on March 26, 2012. Charley was raised in Dallas and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1948. He moved to Cottonwood in 1968, and in 1977 to Grays Prairie where he and his wife operated Riggs Gas and Grocery for 17 years. Charley retired in 1992 from Texas Utilities and moved back to the family farm in Cottonwood in 2001. Charley was a member of the National Guard from 1949-1958 and was a Deacon at Elam Road Church of Christ. Most recently, Charley was a member of the Landmark Church of Christ in Kaufman. On August 27, 1950, Charley married Wynell Laverne Johnson, his wife and the love of his life for over 61 years. Charley is survived by his wife: Wynell, sons: David Riggs of Sulphur Springs and Tommy Riggs of Forney, daughter: Brenda Riggs of Nacogdoches, sister: Mary Beth Carter of Ardmore, Oklahoma, grandchildren: Josh Riggs, Randi Rhodes, Kati Adair, Charles Riggs, Reuben Riggs, Andrew Riggs, Luke Riggs and Lydia Riggs, great-grandchildren: Micah, Chelle and Nathaniel Riggs, daughter-in-law Kerrie Riggs, grandsons-in-law Ryan Rhodes and Zach Adair and many other relatives and friends.
