Jack Cochran Morgan

Jack Cochran Morgan, a fifth generation Texan passed away July 31, 2009 at the Kaufman Health Care Center in Kaufman, Texas. Dr. Philip Chacko conducted a graveside service for the family at the Kaufman Cemetery. Jack was born in Sweetwater, Texas, March 17, 1928, to John Franklin Morgan, Jr. and Tommie Lee Cochran Morgan. After graduating from Kaufman High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. and Doctor of Jurisprudence, he began a law practice in Kaufman and practiced for 50 years. He was licensed to practice law in Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Federal Appeals Court in New Orleans, Federal Ddistrict Court in Tyler, Court of Military Appeals in Washington, D.C., and the U. S. Supreme Court. He was an Eagle Scout and he served in the Air Force Reserves, reaching the rank of Captain. Jack was a KISD Trustee. He chaired the original board for Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Kaufman and served on the Foundation Board of Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He served as Assistant District Attorney in Kaufman and State Representative from Kaufman County. He was the Kaufman City Attorney for 40 years. Jack was a Director of Farmers and Merchants National Bank for 28 years and served as attorney for the Trinity Valley Electric Coop. For 40 years. He helped organize the Kaufman County Library Foundation and was a dedicated member of Grace Christian Church for 67 years, serving as elder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served as Board Member and Chairman for the school now known as University of Texas at Tyler. Jack received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from the school after retiring from the Board of Trustees. In 2004 Jack was honored by the Chamber of Commerce of Kaufman with the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Franklin Morgan III. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Millie Edmunds Morgan; children Millicent Morgan Townsend and husband Robert Heath Townsend of Dallas, Jack Cochran Morgan Jr. and wife Pamela Bell Morgan of Plano; grandson Robert Heath Townsend Jr. of Dallas; a stepbrother John B. McCall and wife Cookie of Coppell. The family gratefully appreciates the loving care given to Jack by the Kaufman Health Care Center and the Visiting Nurses Association.
