Marjorie Ann Condon

Born in a house on March 8, 1931, Marjorie Ann Gorton was the baby daughter of Anna and Glenn Gorton and sister of Donald Gorton, Dorothy Mae Gorton, Richard Bud Gorton and Rita Gorton. Marjorie grew up and lived in Lohrville, Iowa. She worked as a telephone operator on the old switchboard system where there were more party lines than single phone lines. Back in those days you had to go thru the operator in order to make a phone call. These old phone systems where hand cranked. Nothing close to what we have today. Marjorie attended school and graduated in 1950 from Lohrville High School. After high school Marjorie, thru a couple of close friends, Snowball Morgan and Joanne Fielding met the love of her life a boy from Farmhamville, Iowa by the name of Donald F. Condon. This was a blind date and on April 20, 1952 Marjorie and Don where married. After they were married Don joined the U. S. Army and Marjorie was pregnant with Eugene, a couple of years later came Connie and a couple of years later was Jerry and last but not least came Kristi. Marjorie and don ran an insurance business in Des Moines for several years. Don also sold used cars and traveled the road making a living for his family. Marjorie attends to her kids and went to work for Riverview Manor and Heather Manor. While the used car business was going down, Marjorie worked to help Don meet the monthly bills. One day Don came home and had decided to buy a funeral home in Slater, Iowa. Shortly after moving to Slater to run the funeral home Don past away of a heart of attack. After Don's death Eugene and Marjorie tried to keep the funeral home going until 1984 and then the funeral home had to close forever. Marjorie and her two sons and daughter, Eugene, Jerry, and Kristi, moved to Texas in 1985. Connie and her family moved to Texas shortly afterwards. Marjorie worked at Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas until she retired with her daughter, Kristi and her husband Jeff. Marjorie passed away on September 223, 2010 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Marjorie is survived by her sons: Gene Condon of Forney and Jerry Condon of Garland, daughters: Connie Allen of Tyler and Kristi Shelton of Garland, several grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
