Loretta Nell Dean was born in Scurry, Texas on August 19, 1942 to T. J. and Lela Clayton Powell. Loretta passed away in a Terrell, Texas hospital on July 13, 2009. She was raised in Kaufman and Scurry and graduated from Scurry-Rosser Schools. Loretta lived in Cottonwood for twenty-six years before moving to Kaufman in 1992. She was a past member of the Grays Prairie Missionary Baptist Church and a current member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Cottonwood. Loretta was a church pianist for many years in several area churches. She was preceded in death by her parents T. J. and Lela Powell, grandparents Nell and Jepp Powell and Benjamin and Henrietta Clayton and a grandson Tony Dean. Loretta married G. W. Dean in Ennis, Texas on April 9, 1993. She is survived by her husband: G. W. Dean of Kaufman, stepmother: Nakita Blain and her husband John of Terrell, sons: Chris Taliaferro and his wife Slone of Cottonwood, Tracy Dean and his wife Angel of Scurry, and Terry Dean and his wife Melissa of Scurry, daughter: Sheri York and her husband Doug of Hubbard, brothers: Roger Powell of Winnsboro, Ted Paulk of Arizona, Jim Norton of Waskum and David Powell of Kaufman, like a sister: Judy Mayfield of Kaufman, great-aunt: Opal Abbott, grandchildren: Ty Taliaferro, Laikyn York, Diana Wilemon and Allison Dean, great-grandson: Ryder Wilemon. Loretta was a beloved and devoted grandmother to her grandson Ty Taliaferro.
