Albert Lee Babovec, Sr., 87, of Terrell, Texas, went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Albert Lee was born in Kaufman on February 15, 1937, to Albert Louis and Mary Frances Hetmer Babovec. He grew up working on the family farm, where he developed his strong work ethic and love for the land.
On December 29, 1961, Albert Lee married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Butler. Together, they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, faith, and family.
Albert Lee began his career as a roofer but soon discovered his passion for construction, leading to the founding of Lee Construction Company, Inc. Over the years, he built countless homes, as well as bank and church buildings, leaving a lasting mark on Kaufman County. Albert retired in 2002 but remained deeply connected to the community he helped build.
An avid outdoorsman, Albert Lee enjoyed quail hunting with friends and his bird dogs, fishing, and gathering pecans. His love for animals flowed into the cattle he raised on their farm with a fond lasting family memory being, “I need to get home and take care of the cows.” He also loved taking leisurely drives around the county, marveling at the growth and change over the years. His mornings often began with lively breakfast round table discussions with friends at Nell’s Café or the North Forty. Albert Lee rarely missed a Kaufman Lions football game over the years and was an avid Texas Rangers fan.
Albert Lee enjoyed family vacations and holiday gatherings with extended family and friends. He always looked forward to playing forty-two at gatherings and was able to share that passion with his church family on a regular basis.
Albert Lee and Betty were members of Victory Church in Scurry, Texas where they faithfully served and nurtured their spiritual family.
Known for his strong leadership and devotion to his family, Albert Lee was a beloved husband, “Daddy”, “Pops”, “Papaw”, brother, and friend. His impact on those around him will never be forgotten.
Albert Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Babovec, and his siblings, Alvin Joe Babovec and Johnny Babovec.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Babovec; his children, Caron Leigh Sherrard and husband Gary Lee of Terrell, and Albert Lee Babovec, Jr. and wife Kathryn Kristen of Plano; his grandchildren, Ashleigh Paige Tynes and husband Jerrod of Rockwall, Tait Holden Sherrard of Kaufman, and Eden Grace Babovec of Lubbock; his siblings, Bobby Joe Babovec and wife Etta of Kaufman, and Georgia Mae Peavler and husband Abe of Kaufman. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and cherished friends who will miss him dearly.
Albert Lee’s legacy of love, hard work, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
