Almon Derwood Sikes

Almon Sikes, 93, passed away in his home in Terrell, Texas on Friday, February 17, 2023. He was known to many as Al or Uncle Kid to his nieces and nephews.  Al was born on September 12, 1929, in Chandler, Texas to the late Ernest R. Sikes and Lottie Roads Sikes.  On October 30, 1948, he married his first wife, Ethel Young Sikes, and they were married for 41 years, having one son, Butch, and three daughters, Cherrie, Vickie, and Joan. After working for Good Year for many years, he moved his family to Kaufman in 1971. He opened his tire store in 1972 and had that business for 17 years before he retired. He was also a member of the Kaufman Church of Christ for several years. In 1996, he married Wanda Gann Criswell. They loved to travel and spend time with their family and grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, one sister, his first wife, Ethel Sikes, and son, Butch. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Wanda, three daughters, Cherrie Selman, Vickie (Larry Elzner), Joan (Paul Elmore), with ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
