Curtis Ray Donawho was born in Kaufman Texas on February 16, 1947 and died on August 25, 2022. His parents were William Otto and Maude Dockery Donawho. He grew up in Rosser, Texas and graduated from Scurry-Rosser High School in 1965. He joined the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Matthews and USS Valley Forge during the Vietnam conflict. After leaving the Navy, Curtis joined the US Coast Guard and worked as a crane operator maintaining and installing aids to navigation. In 1966 he met Maureen Murray while attending boat coxswain school in California. They married in 1975 and moved to the Kaufman area where he worked as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. They have one daughter, Sarah Rhea and two grandsons, Luke Ray Hansen of Athens and Nathan Robert Hansen of Scurry. Curtis is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: William Thomas Donawho, William Otto Donawho, Melvin Stanley Donawho, Maud Del Ford, and Lois Clements. Curtis was a member of First United Methodist Church Kaufman. He loved blacksmithing, primitive tools and tinkering in his shop, but most of all Curt loved his family and friends.
