Doris Faye Davis

Doris Basham Davis left this world on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. She passed peacefully in her sleep exactly the way she wanted to pass.

She was born on September 20, 1935, in Hillsboro, Texas, to her parents, the late Raymond Doris Basham and the late Lora Fae Davidson Basham.

Doris was a teacher’s aide in Midlothian, Texas, and was the PEIMS Coordinator in Venus, Texas.

Her hobbies were sewing, ceramics, and gardening. She loved to travel and visited Japan and Hong Kong among her many travels.  Doris also loved to cook. Most of all, she was passionate about her animals.  Doris also raised Boston Terriers.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Roxie Goldsmith (spouse – Steve), son, Charles Davis, Jr. (significant other – Barbara Sparks), grandson, Eric W. Thompson II and stepdaughter, Laura Maxwell. She is survived by her other children, David Merkel (spouse – Alexis), Larry Merkel (spouse – Norma), Becky Hornsby (spouse – Thomas), and Donald Merkel (spouse – Eva). She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Don Davis, Sr., her son, Ricky Merkel, daughter, Sherry McNeil and grandson, Preston McNeil.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the local animal shelters.
