James Leonard Crow

It is with celebration and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Leonard Crow. He left this world for his eternal home March 15, 2025 at the age of 94.

James Leonard Crow was born at home on April 27, 1930 in Crandall, Texas. His parents were Grover Clevland Crow and Bessie Tevis Crow. He was a beloved husband to Ruby Jane Crow for 50 years and a devoted father to Mike Crow, Tony Crow, Bobby Crow, Ricky Newton, Mikey Newton and Jimbo Newton.

Leonard was preceded in death by his loving wife Jane Crow, his beloved son Mike Crow and beloved daughter in law, Donna Newton and precious and beloved granddaughters, Brandy Crow and Amy Vibbert.

Leonard is survived by Tony Crow (Gale), Bobby Crow (Karen), Irene Crow Lanier, Ricky Newton (Molly), Mikey Newton (Kimberly) and Jimbo Newton (Mary Jane). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson and many nieces, nephews and hundreds of faithful friends.

Leonard Crow was a man of deep faith, whose love for God shone through in every aspect of his life. As a devoted father and grandfather, he led with kindness, strength, and an unwavering heart, always putting his family first. He found joy in life’s simple blessings – singing hymns to uplift those around him, casting a fishing line into a quiet stream or lake, tending to his garden with patience and care, sharing stories and laughter, taking his grandkids on rides in the bucket of the tractor/backhoe, and him taking risks by riding the grandkids’ electric scooter, ending up with a torn rotator cuff.

During his years as a mail carrier, Leonard’s warm spirit made him more than just a familiar face on the route; he was a friend, always ready to pause for a neighbor’s kind invitation to share a slice of homemade pie or cake. He loved serving the Lord and his church, First Baptist of Crandall. He passionately and selflessly served as a deacon for over 50 years, led the church choir, served as church treasurer for over 30 years and always had an open door to his home to anyone that stopped by for one of Granny’s homecooked meals!

His life was one of love, faith, and connection, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he has gone to his eternal home, his legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Leonard will be deeply missed, but we celebrate his beautiful ushering into heaven!

A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Crandall Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 am.
