James Edward Adams (Geese), loved by his family and friends, gently departed from this world on April 17, 2025, in Canton, Texas. Born on September 3, 1958, in Denton, Texas, James lived a life that embodied kindness, dedication, and a strong sense of faith. His spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
James grew up in Crandall, Texas and was a proud and passionate Crandall Pirate. He played most sports offered to him and excelled as quarterback of the football team. He enjoyed reminiscing about football and basketball games with former Crandall Pirate friends and coaches. James was Mr. CHS his senior year and classmates remembered him as someone who had a way of making everyone laugh.
He pursued a career in the construction industry, laboring as a concrete finisher. His craftsmanship and commitment were respected and appreciated by colleagues and clients alike. He laid foundations not only in concrete but also in the mentorship that he provided to his peers. During his time at TxDOT, he received the “Extra Mile” award for going above and beyond, while tending to the ice covered roads. James and two of his colleagues rescued a hypothermic disabled man. His life was saved that day due to their heroic actions.
James, known as a leader throughout, invested over a decade to serving his church and community as the facilitator of a faith-based recovery program known as “Overcomers.” James’ testimony inspired many lives by sharing how God saved and redeemed his life and family. 1 Peter 5:10 says, “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
James was a loving father and grandfather, embracing his family with open arms. He followed his children and grandchildren to Canton, Texas, where he spent the last of his days. He found immense joy in attending his grandchildren's sporting events and picking them up from school. His grandchildren—Kylie Valdez, Braxton Troxell, Brayden Montano, Katie Troxell, Gabriella Montano, Isaac Montano, Emersyn Hackett, and the little one on the way, Baby Hackett—were not merely part of his family; they were the jewels of his heart.
His affection extends to include the love of his life, Susan Troxell and their children, Robert Troxell, Kara Montano (spouse – Edgar) and Bethany Hackett (spouse – Ethan). He shared many cherished memories with his sister, Connie Johnson (spouse – Brian), and enjoyed the camaraderie of his nephews, Jacob and Joshua Johnson, and niece, Jessica Johnson.
James' appreciation for the simple pleasures of life was evident in his love for sweet treats, the Dallas Cowboys, jammin’ to Blues music, World War history and most importantly, his love for Jesus Christ. With Whom he is now spending eternal life with and is reunited with his parents, James Auble Adams (Poppy) and Patricia Ann Fisher (Granny), in eternal rest. As we remember him, let us carry forward his legacy of love, dedication, overcoming and resilience in our own lives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Kaufman County Christian Center in Kaufman, Texas, starting at 10:30 AM, with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM.
