John T. Harris

John Thornton Harris, age 77, left our earthly presence on Friday, January 31, 2025. He passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by those who loved and cherished him most.

He was born in San Diego and remained in California most of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Reserve. Following his service to our country, John worked as a postal worker and retired from the main distribution center of the Sacramento Post Office. He was a highly intelligent individual and was able to site specific dates and details when asked questions regarding history. John loved engaging in conversations with his son-in-law, Tim.

He was preceded in death by his wife Debra, in 2023.

He is survived by his daughter, Gillian Harris (spouse - Tim Atchison); sons Brian Harris (spouse - Merredith); son, Marc Harris; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Atchison and Wyatt Harris; and his sisters, Janet Vorhees and Susan Rutledge.

As we reflect on John's life, we remember a man whose heart was as expansive as the California skies under which he was born. His laughter, his kindness, and his devotion shall resonate through the lives he has touched, reminding us all to cherish and nurture those whom we love.
