Joni Gail Walker was born in Kaufman, Texas on February 7, 1955 to James Finos Walker and Dorothy Louise Couch. She passed away on June 8, 2021 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 66. Joni was raised in Kaufman and graduated from Kaufman High School in 1973. She earned a degree in Physical Education from Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas in 1978. While attending college, Joni engaged in various sports including girls fast-pitch softball, basketball and competed at the collegiate and professional rodeo levels. After graduation, she started her career at Montgomery ISD coaching girls sports, then transferred to Tomball ISD. She later coached at Ennis High School for 14 years where she became head volleyball coach in 1990. In 2000, she accepted a position with Forney ISD as Girls Athletic Director/Head Volleyball Coach. She served in Forney until her retirement in 2006. Over the years, her teams won numerous titles and recognitions. Joni took great pride in the achievements of all these athletic programs. She was tough but she wanted her players to succeed not just in sports but in life. She was extremely proud of their successes. Upon retirement, Joni moved to her home on Cedar Creek Lake where she enjoyed fishing and relaxing with family, friends and her beloved dogs, Lisa Marie, Gracie, Molly and Buddy.. and let's not forget about her cats! Joni was Elvis Presley's number 1 fan at an early age. She loved his music, movies, concerts and visiting his precious Graceland. She devoted an entire room in her home to the King. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James "Bodie" Walker. She is survived by her sisters, Jill Morgan, and June Copeland and husband, Jimmy, her nephew, Justin Morgan and niece, Morgan Copeland, along with family and friends who were very special to her.
