Joshua Emmanuel Cortes

Joshua Emmanuel Cortes, born on October 18, 2013, in Dallas, Texas, was welcomed into heaven on November 10, 2024. He was the cherished son of Rodrigo Cortes Santiago and Lissette Vasquez-Cortes, and a beloved older brother to Luna Nazareth Cortes. His life touched the hearts of numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him deeply.

Joshua’s family moved from Dallas to Scurry three years ago, and he quickly became part of the community, attending Scurry Middle School. Known for his curious spirit, Joshua loved asking questions and sparking conversations with everyone he met, always eager to learn more about the world around him and to connect with others.

Joshua had a gentle, adventurous spirit and a love for animals, especially his dogs, Kim and Oreo, his pig Princess, and the many chickens that made their home on the family’s land. He was happiest outdoors, whether fishing for crawdads, swimming, horseback riding, or on his ATV. His love for animals inspired him to dream of becoming a farmer someday.

Music was another passion; he loved listening to Fuerza Regida, making TikToks, and watching movies. He cherished every moment with his family, especially when they gathered for his favorite meals, like wings and seafood. His favorite time of year was Christmas, which brought him endless joy and family moments he treasured.

Joshua was a fighter from birth, bravely overcoming the challenges of Spina Bifida, and inspiring everyone who knew him with his resilience and determination. His laughter, kindness, and joy for life will be remembered always by all whose lives he touched.
