Kay Wilson

Kay Myatt Wilson, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born in Navarro, Texas on December 4, 1944. Kay passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Mabank Nursing Center in Mabank, Texas. She was 80 years old and lived a long, fulfilling life dedicated to her family and those she loved.

Kay had a kind, beautiful, and gentle soul, always putting others before herself. She had a strong and powerful prayer life. She began each day with her Bible and coffee and didn’t waiver from this daily routine. Kay was a true example of a woman of Christ. We can rest easier knowing that Heaven got a little sweeter the day she left us. Kay touched countless lives with her warmth, compassion, and unwavering love. She was a great natural born cook and wonderful seamstress. She was a devoted homemaker who spent the majority of her time taking care of her family and making sure every small detail was tended to daily. Her home was always her safe place and she embraced being able to create a home filled with love. Kay was so blessed to be able to care for each of her grandchildren until they started school. She treasured these days as a Mimi. The kids reminisce of the memories they made with her that they will always cherish the most. Kaylee remembers all the times she and Mimi would snap green beans and camp out in the backyard and bake cookies. Jake recalls all the trips to the gas station to grab a loaf of bread, then heading to the City Lake to feed the ducks and making cookies with Kaylee on the cookie board. She was also known for sneaking a bag of chips and a coke to Jake after school pick up. Justin thinks back to all the countless hours spent on the floor playing a mean game of Monopoly, as well as waiting until she fell asleep to go joy riding in her car at the age of 15!! Though her greatest joy in life came from being a mother and grandmother, her intelligence and dedication shone through in everything she did. She was the one they went to for help on English papers, science related questions, and life advice in general. She was their true one and only confidant.

A proud graduate of Kaufman High School, winner of many honors and active in academic clubs, Kay excelled academically and graduated as the salutatorian of her class in 1963. Kay attended Kaufman ISD all 12 years of public schooling. Her accomplishments at KHS were: F.H.A. treasurer, 1961-62-63; F.H.A. membership, 4 years; Band, 4 years; Majorette, two years; Band Council, one year; Band Sweetheart, 1961-62; East Texas queen nominee 1963; National Honor Society, 1963; Treasurer of Class, 1960-61; Vice President, 1961-62; Member of Henderson County Select Band, 1961-62. After high school, Kay attended Navarro County Junior College then went on to the University of Texas in Austin to pursue a Bachelor of Science. Kay married Don Wilson in 1965, and together they raised two beautiful daughters over a 30-year marriage.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Aulds. Kay is survived by her loving daughter, Laura Throneberry, and her husband, Dwayne; her grandsons, Justin Throneberry and wife Shana, and Jake Throneberry; her granddaughter, Kaylee Aulds; and her former son-in-law John Aulds. She was also blessed with a great-grandson, Cash Throneberry, whom she adored and loved fiercely. In his short 3 years of life, this little guy made his impact on her as well. His job was helping Lolli feed Mimi her pudding each morning, and he also loved to hold her straw for her while she took a drink of her beloved sweet tea. From playing with his big red ball to rocking him and singing Rock a Bye Baby, they did it all. He was her physical therapist:)

Kay’s legacy of kindness, selflessness, and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
