Larry Don Estes

Larry Don Estes, a lifetime resident of Kemp, TX passed into heaven on August 30, 2024, at the age of 75. Larry spent his final weeks on hospice surrounded by his family as he respectfully battled the enemy of cancer. On December 20, 1948, Larry was born in Terrell, TX as the only child to Guinn and Patty Estes. He graduated from Kemp High School in 1967 and then served in the US Army from 1969-1971 where he was stationed in Germany. 

Larry spent the first 20 years of his career as a dedicated employee of Procter and Gamble in Dallas and then went to work for the Texas State Highway Dept. for many years until his retirement. In his younger years, Larry was an avid golfer and would be on the golf course with his friends any chance he got. As a Pappa, Larry passed down his love of camping to his kids and grandkids and made many great memories at various TX state parks. On May 5, 2007, Larry married the love of his life, Wanda, and the joy of camping grew as they spent as much time as possible at campgrounds with friends and family. If they weren't camping, he would often be found passing time sitting out in his driveway visiting with family and friends. Larry was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather. His parents Guinn and Patty and wife Wanda Estes preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are children: Tim Estes and wife Andrea, Tracy Estes and wife Angela, and Julie Estes; grandchildren: Megan Hernandez and husband Michael, Krissie Martinez and husband Miguel, and Hudson Estes; great-grandchildren: Sophia, Cayden, Madelyn, Cooper, Evalynn, and one on the way; step-children: Teresa Cundiff, Vickie Hatcher and husband Stacy; step-grandchildren: Casey Cundiff and wife Haley, Zak Hatcher and Katie Hatcher; step-great grandchildren: Atleigh, Bentley, Aubree and Breeland; as well as numerous extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
