Linda Kay Contreras, age 76, passed away, Friday, January 6, 2023, following a brief illness.
Linda was born on December 21, 1946, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to her parents, the late Robert J. Nelson and Donna Faye Ward.
Linda was a very accomplished individual for her time. She was the owner of a Dairy Queen franchise in Jacksonville, Texas, and a Sonic franchise in Benbrook, Texas. She also retired in 2004 from Sprint as a telecommunications supervisor. She was the first sign language interpreter with Reverend Bells.
She was passionate about Tae Kwon Do. Linda became a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She was the owner of Top Kicks dojo in North Richland Hills, Texas, and was the co-founder of Model Mugging Empowerment Center for Self Defense. Her skills at Tae Kwon Do earned her many accolades throughout the years and was recognized as a top trainer in the United States in Tae Kwon Do. One her greatest accomplishments was the opportunity to train President Vincente Fox (former president of Mexico) and his family.
Those left to cherish her memories are sons, Lawrence “Skeeter” Callahan (spouse – Tosha) of Sanger Texas, and Rane Lee Callahan also of Sanger, Texas; son, Fernando Contreras (spouse – Ana) of South Lake, Texas; Daughter Vanessa Contreras (spouse – Jimmy) of San Antonio, Texas, daughter, Adriana Medrano (spouse – Luis) of Denton, Texas, daughters, Jennifer Callahan of Kaufman, Texas, and brothers, Carey J. Nelson (spouse – Ana) and Ronnie Nelson. 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also will cherish her memories.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Contreras, and son, Stephen Callahan.
A memorial service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at ReChurch, 113 North Jackson, in Kaufman.
