Hergy was born in 1959 in Columbus, Georgia and traveled nationally and internationally as a
military kid. This is where he developed his love for travel and touring with bands. At the age
of three he traveled to the Philippines where he enjoyed island life surrounded by palm trees
and tiki huts. Herg landed in Texas after his Dad became a commercial airline pilot. As a boy
in the 60’s he collected Beatles albums and was inspired to take guitar and drum lessons. He
started his first electronics workshop in his bedroom closet when he was 13 where he tinkered
with electronics and CB radios. That was the birthplace of HERGTRONICS. Give him a
soldering iron and he could fix anything! In 1974 he arranged for his Mama to take him and
his brother and sister to see George Harrison at Tarrant County Convention Center. Turns out,
it was an opportunity of a lifetime and the coolest thing MamaHerg ever did for her kids. And
that's where it all started. He graduated with an Associates Degree in Electronics Technology
from Texas A&M Institute of Electronics in 1979. During his career Herg worked for
SHOWCO, Pioneer, Sound Productions, Vari-Lite and most recently Gemini Stage Lighting &
Equipment. He toured with bands including ZZ Top, Prince, Willie Nelson and Boston. He
was a brilliant audio technician, audio engineer and inventor known as HERGTRONICS. He
moved to Guam and worked for Ambrose Music for several years as a Audio Engineer and
Audio Technician later returning to Texas with his wife, Ree. He started gigging locally with his
musician wife using his own custom sound system while working for Gemini Stage Lighting
and Equipment. He mixed sound for local Dallas bands all his adult life unless he was on tour
or in Guam. For Herg it was all about the music, right on!
A memorial is planned for June 1st from 4:00-8:00 at Lee Harvey’s 1807 Gould St. Dallas
