Rev. Darrell Lewallen Hill, age 83, resident of Kaufman, Texas, passed away on April 23, 2023, after a long battle with dementia and kidney disease. Pastor Hill was born on June 13, 1939, grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and is survived by his wife, Nancy Hill, his one true love of 65 years. He leaves behind five wonderful children with spouses: Debbie Hooten & David, Teresa Hill, Darrel Hill & Lucretia, David Hill & Sherry, and Sonja Williams & Mike. His surviving grandchildren are Jonathan, Christopher, Shanda, Joshua, Cassie, Chance, Austin, Macy, Grace and numerous “bonus” grandchildren added through adoption including, Trent, Louie, Dallas, Spencer, Preston, Jessica and so many more! He was blessed with 10 great grandchildren: Linden, Kingston, Sailor, and Golden (Shanda’s angels) Bridgett, Parker, and Lynnlee (Cassie’s beauties) and Bash, Nixon, and Isaiah (Trent’s boys). He has one surviving brother, Ronnie Hill.
Pastor Hill was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Hill, when he was the tender age of 4 years old, then by his father, J.O. Hill, his stepmother, Edna Hill, Grandma Nace, Uncle Jake, and Aunt Carrie (all who helped raise him), siblings Margie and Terry, his granddaughter, Alicia Hill, and numerous spiritual brothers and sisters in the Lord.
His lifelong purpose was to serve in the Kingdom of God, and yet he was blessed with the talent and ability to provide for fully for his family through sales or whatever else his hands found to do. He had an enviable work ethic in all he did. He started ministering at the young age of 16 and never quit. He evangelized, sang, played instruments and preached the gospel, sharing with all of his friends and neighbors the salvation he had found. He and his best friend, Richard Smotts, were known as “the sons of thunder” as they sang and preached revivals and saw God perform many miracles. In addition to fishing for the souls of men, he had a passion for fishing. He loved catching them and he loved eating it. The only thing that could make fishing any more enjoyable for him was to be able to do it while on a cruise with the people he loved. He also loved to ride his motorcycle and traveling. In fact, he just loved to GO.
He was so full of charm, charisma, and humor. He loved people, cared genuinely, always offered an encouraging word and always built others up. He was a great storyteller and loved to make everyone laugh.
After evangelizing for many years, Reverend Hill became Pastor Hill. He became a faithful student and assistant under the greatest mentor of his life, Pastor John Reid, in Warsaw, Indiana. In 1966, Pastor Hill founded a church in Russellville, Arkansas, along with this wife Nancy, and brother-in-law, John Miller. That church continues today. God moved him to Texas and on to several other ministries throughout the United States where he mentored and served. He finished his race under the refreshing ministry of Victory Church in Scurry, Texas.
Today, we celebrate his life and rejoice in the knowledge that we’ll be reunited, for an eternity in heaven with our Savior.
