In memory of Phileta Smith who was born on February 13, 1940, in Newport, Kentucky to Elmer Lee Nelson and Myrtle Phileta Harrell. She was saved at an early age at Beckley Heights Baptist Church, pastored by B.H. Tucker, and baptized. In 1957, she renewed her vows to God and was baptized by Bro. Tommy Cockerham in Tankersley pond. She met the love of her life Hershell, and they were married on November 4, 1956. They were married 64 years.
She loved the work of the Lord playing the piano, singing and especially children’s ministry. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, her loving husband Hershell, two sisters Margie and June, 3 brothers Benny, Charles, and Frank Leo.
She is survived by her 5 children: Ray and wife Brenda of Kemp, Don and wife Diane of OK, Sharon Sankovich of AR, Laura Cook and husband David of Kemp, Philip of Kemp, 1 brother Austin Kemp, 2 sisters in GA Susie and Beverly, 2 brothers in NC Mike and Gary, 2 brothers in TX Steven and John Scott, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grand children many nieces and nephews and friends. Service will be held at Tolosa Baptist Church where she was a member and the pastor’s wife for many years. Flowers can be delivered to the church.
