Sofia Palacios Botello was born in January 1957 to Elijio Botello Chaires and Ciria Roman Marcelino. She passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2023 in Rioverde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico at the age of 66. Sofia grew up in Ejido Obregon, Rayon, San Luis Potosi. She grew up with 11 siblings and parents. Sofia moved to her aunt’s house in Tampico, Tamaulipas at the age of 17. She met Esteban in her hometown in San Luis Potosi and on July 30, 1978, they wed in Rayon, San Luis Potosi. They went on to have 2 children in Tampico. Esteban came to the United States in 1984 to work in hopes to provide a better life for Sofia and the kids, visiting them in Tampico when he could. In 1990, the family moved to Kaufman, Texas, where Sofia & Esteban had two more children, Maria and Marco.
Sofia was a fun spirited soul who above all took care of her family. When the family first arrived to Texas, Sofia worked hard to establish her house cleaning business. She learned to drive, was motivated to learn to speak English, built her dream house and obtained citizenship. Sofia believed in living life to the fullest, taking risks, and living in the moment. She was the first one to start dancing at every family cookout, New Years Eve gathering, holiday party, and anytime at the sound of music. Her faith was strong and she was a devoted Catholic. Sofia enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes. She believed in holistic health and prayers as a form of wellness. Sofia liked to stay active and was youthful in spirit. She loved every family gathering, cookout, beach trip but above all, she loved the close knit family she formed over the years. She was the best mother, wife, and friend anyone could ask for. The legacy she leaves her family is that of resiliency, faith, hard work, and living life to the fullest with those whom we love most. For this we are eternally grateful and she will be dearly missed. Sofia’s father, Elijio Botello Chaires, brother Primitivo Botello Roman, sisters: Margarita Botello and Maria Botello Roman and 2 other siblings preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Esteban, son Eric Palacios and wife Elisa, daughter Laura Palacios Duran, daughter Maria Magdalena Serrano and husband Jose and Son Marco Antonio Palacios; grandchildren: Naidine Alexandria Palacios, Litzy Deyalit Palacios, Rosio Leticia Palacios, Graciela Sofia Duran, Roberto Duran, Jr., and Eric Palacios; mother Ciria Roman Marcelino, 6 sisters, 1 brother and many other relatives.
