Sylvia Jeanene Johnston Starkes, 85, of Kaufman, TX went to be with the Lord on February 24, 2022 while at home surrounded by love and family. Sylvia was born on September 5, 1936 to Alexander Lee and Lillian O’Dell Johnston in Henderson County, TX. She graduated from Athens ISD and attended Henderson County Junior College. On June 24, 1954, she married the love of her life, B.G. Starkes, and they spent a wonderful 54 years together before he passed away in November of 2008. Sylvia was a librarian and volunteered for years at the Kaufman County Library and enjoyed genealogy, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching cozy murder mysteries. Sylvia was a skillful 42 dominos player, as demonstrated by her collection of 42 Tournament Trophies. Sylvia was an amazing Chef who mastered the art of ‘farm to table’ cuisine where she crafted delicious dishes from the produce her husband grew in his garden. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister. Her parents and husband preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are children: Donna Jeanene Swan-Harris and husband EricD from Frisco, TX, Steve Starkes and wife Mary of Kaufman, TX and Brad Starkes and wife Carmen of Scurry, TX; grandkids: Michael Swan, Derrick Green, Stuart Green, Cameron Starkes, Jim Mason, Johnny Mason, Stephanie Meadows and Shannon Smith; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister Peggy Miller and husband Kenneth, brother Donald Johnston and wife Sally, extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
