Tommy G. Gray

Tommy Gene Gray, 93, of Kaufman, TX. passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. Tom was born to George and Elvie Gray in Dallas, TX, on November 6, 1929. He graduated high school from Crozier Tech in 1947. He joined the Dallas Fire Department in 1951, retiring as a Captain at 24s in 1980. He also started his own contracting business in the early 1960’s and it is still operating today under the direction of his son Brad and grandsons Chad and Cameron. Tom married the great love of his life, Bette Jean Caldwell, on March 5, 1954, and theirs was a love story for the ages. No two people were ever more devoted to each other than these two and the family takes comfort in knowing that they are once again reunited and joyfully dancing together today on streets of gold. Tom is survived by son Mark Gray and wife Debbie of Scurry, TX., son Brad Gray and wife Cindy of Kaufman, TX., grandchildren Brandon Gray, Chad Gray (Cori), Cameron Gray, Jodie Andrews (Paul), Chase Johansen, great-grandchildren Caylen, Charlee, Gracie, Jake, Aria, sister Betty Renfro, sister-in law Bobbie Caldwell, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his adoring wife of 51 years, Bette, parents George and Elvie, sister Dorothy Stanton and brother Donald Gray. Tom was a dedicated family man and faithful Christian servant who devoted his life to quietly helping others and setting an example for children and grandchildren. He had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that he maintained throughout his days. We will miss hearing his soft, contented humming around the house as he went about his day. He always made sure to give God the Glory for the many blessings bestowed upon our family. We will miss you Pops!
